Akamas: New Report with 19 Conditions for Road Network Projects

The Environmental Authority has published a new compliance report with 19 conditions for projects on the road network of the Akamas National Forest Park. The report concerns phase A of the projects, which began in September 2022 and were suspended in October 2023.
The report includes recommendations to ensure the environmental integrity of the area and proposes the creation of a monitoring mechanism for the implementation of environmental terms. It also provides for the removal of the water supply pipeline.
Among other things, the report examines the management of rainwater from Peyeia to Aspros Potamos, the restoration of erosion, the removal of retaining walls and the construction of wildlife crossings. The Department of Environment assessed compliance with the terms as generally satisfactory.
The Department of Forests is committed to restoring the affected Natura 2000 habitats. The establishment of a monitoring mechanism for environmental conditions with the participation of an environmental inspector is also underway.
