Antonia Theodosiou: Reconnecting Citizens with the Pedieos River

Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare, Antonia Theodosiou, emphasized the importance of reconnecting citizens with the Pedieos River at the opening of the 2nd Pedieos Sustainability Festival. The event was organized by the Commissioner's Office within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Ms. Theodosiou stated that the creation of the Linear Park in the Municipalities of Lakatamia, Strovolos, and Nicosia was a significant breakthrough, with cleanups, removal of illegal interventions, and restoration of the river's natural flow. The goal is a healthy river ecosystem that will enhance the quality of life.

The Pedieos Sustainability Festival, organized in collaboration with the NGO Cycloikodromio, includes more than 70 actions from April 17 to May 10, along the river from Machairas to Famagusta. The Commissioner expressed hope that the Festival will serve as an example for highlighting and protecting other river ecosystems in Cyprus.
