Satellites to Detect Fires Globally Every 20 Minutes

A new satellite system, designed specifically for global fire detection, will be able to scan the entire Earth every 20 minutes by 2030, according to U.S. media.
The first satellite of the project, FireSat Protoflight, was launched three months ago by Muon Space and has already captured its first images. The satellite used a multi-infrared band sensor to detect thermal signatures.
FireSat is the first of a proposed constellation of 50 satellites, providing near-continuous monitoring for rapid fire detection on a global scale.
The initiative reflects the increasing need for prevention and management technologies for natural disasters due to the climate crisis.
