Fires: Red Alert for 4 Regions Today

The Civil Protection warns of an extreme fire risk (category 5) today, Saturday (9/8), in four regions of Greece. Ten more areas are on increased alert.
The regions on alert are:
- Attica Region (including the island of Kythira)
- Region of Central Greece (Regional Units of Viotia, Evia)
- Peloponnese Region (Regional Units of Argolida, Corinthia, Laconia, Arcadia)
- Region of Western Greece (Regional Units of Achaia, Ilia)
A very high fire risk (category 4) is predicted for the following areas: Region of Western Greece, Region of the Peloponnese, Region of the Ionian Islands (Regional Units of Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Lefkada), Region of Central Greece (Regional Units of Fthiotida, Fokida, Evia including the island of Skyros), Region of North Aegean, Region of South Aegean (Cyclades Regional Units), Region of Crete, Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Regional Units of Rodopi, Kavala, Thassos, Xanthi, Evros including the island of Samothrace), Region of Central Macedonia (Regional Unit of Halkidiki, including Mount Athos), Region of Epirus (Regional Unit of Preveza).
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has informed the relevant services and advises citizens to be especially careful, avoiding actions that could cause a fire due to negligence. In case of fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at 199.
