Runner Attacked by Bear in Japan, Seriously Injured

A 32-year-old runner, Billy Halloran, was attacked by a bear while jogging near Myoko, Japan. The incident occurred two weeks ago when Halloran encountered two Asian black bears.
One of the bears, weighing approximately 60-70 kg, attacked him. Halloran tried to defend himself, but the bear bit his arm and scratched his leg. Despite his serious injuries, Halloran managed to run a kilometer to meet his wife and wait for the ambulance.
He has undergone three surgeries and is recovering in the hospital. Bear attack incidents have increased in Japan, with over 100 injuries and at least seven deaths. Experts attribute this increase to climate change, which has reduced the natural food sources for bears.
The Japanese government has taken stricter measures to control the bear population. Halloran plans to continue running but will take extra precautions, such as carrying bear spray.
