Japan Records Record Temperature of 41.6°C – Tokyo Filled with Umbrellas

Japan recorded a historic heat record today, with the temperature in Isesaki, east of the country, reaching 41.6 degrees Celsius, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
This is the highest temperature ever recorded in Japan since meteorological records have been kept. The previous record of 41.2°C was set just last week in Tamba, Hyogo Prefecture.
The unusual temperature has led to increased protection measures for citizens, with authorities warning of the dangers of heatstroke and recommending limiting travel, using sunscreen, and drinking water.
Images from Tokyo show citizens protecting themselves from the hot sun with umbrellas, on one of the hottest days the country has experienced.
The heatwave follows a series of extreme weather events in Asia, which, according to scientists, are intensified by accelerating climate change.
