Japan experienced its hottest July since 1898, according to the country's Meteorological Agency (JMA). Temperatures were 2.89 degrees Celsius higher than normal for the season, breaking the July 2024 record (2.16 degrees Celsius).

A historic temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in the Hyogo Prefecture, in the west. The JMA warned that the next month is expected to bring intense heat throughout the country.

In addition, scarce rainfall was recorded in many areas in July, especially in the north. Scientists confirm that climate change is making heat waves more intense and frequent.
