Spain: Wildfires Burn Record 3.4 Million Acres

Spain is facing its worst year on record for wildfires, with over 3.4 million acres burned since the beginning of the year, according to the European Copernicus program.
This number is constantly being revised upwards as fires continue, and the country has already mourned seven deaths. In 2022, 3.06 million acres of burned land were recorded.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced his intention to propose a 'national pact' to address the fires, emphasizing the accelerating climate crisis.
Last month was the third warmest July ever recorded globally, after the records of 2023 and 2024. The European continent is warming faster than the global average.
