Spain: Storms and Wildfires Sweep Through Granada

A storm with gale-force winds hit a beach in Costa Granadina, Granada, Spain, as the country faces widespread wildfires. Beachgoers were forced to seek shelter, and five people had to be rescued.
Severe weather phenomena occurred in the resorts of Motril and Almunecar. The Spanish meteorological agency Aemet recorded a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and wind gusts of 85 kilometers per hour.
The mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, warned citizens to stay in their homes. Simultaneously, wildfires are raging, having burned at least 300,000 acres in areas such as Asturias, Castile and León, Extremadura, Galicia.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the deployment of additional troops to combat the fires and proposed a state pact to adapt to climate change.
