Italy's 'Arch of Lovers' Collapses on Valentine's Day

One of Italy's most famous natural landmarks, the 'Arch of Lovers' in Torre Sant’Andrea, Apulia, collapsed on Valentine's Day. The rock formation, a popular tourist destination for couples, collapsed during a storm.
The stone 'bridge' connecting two rocky pillars was a symbol of romance, as, according to local legend, couples who kissed beneath it would have eternal love.
The mayor of the Melendugno area described the event as a 'heavy blow to the heart' of the local community. Italy has been facing extreme weather events and floods in recent weeks. A yellow weather warning had been issued in Apulia.
