The famous 'Arch of Lovers' in Sant'Andrea di Melendugno in Apulia, Italy, collapsed on Valentine's Day. The rock formation, a popular landmark for marriage proposals, collapsed after rough seas and heavy rainfall.

The mayor of Melendugno, Maurizio Cisternino, stated that the collapse is a 'devastating blow,' as the arch was one of the most famous tourist spots in the area. Local authorities attribute the collapse to strong winds and heavy rainfall in recent days.

The deputy mayor responsible for tourism, Francesco Stella, commented that the situation is like 'a funeral.' According to the Guardian, Mediterranean cyclones, or 'medicanes,' have caused extensive damage in the area, with the climate crisis intensifying their impact.

The damage is considered the most significant caused by coastal erosion in the Salento landscape to date.
