In Guizhou province, southwestern China, a massive photovoltaic power station has covered entire mountains, transforming the region. Covering an area of 866,000 square meters, the station can generate 53 million kWh of electricity annually.

Previously, residents cultivated potatoes and buckwheat in high-altitude areas. The development of the new energy industry has created new development opportunities.

A local official stated that crop yields were low due to altitude and climate, while grazing worsened the environment. The local government has introduced wind and solar energy to accelerate development.

In 2019, a photovoltaic power station was established and put into operation in Er'ang town of Weining. The company pays land rent to the villagers and provides jobs. Medicinal herbs and vegetables are cultivated under the panels.

By 2025, the total installed capacity of wind power in Guizhou is projected to reach 10.8 million kilowatts, while solar power is expected to reach 31 million kilowatts.
