The spectacular Perseids meteor shower will peak on August 12 and 13, 2025, offering sky enthusiasts the chance to observe dozens of 'shooting stars' every hour.

As astrophysicist Chrysanthos Fakas explains, the phenomenon began on July 17 and will last until August 24, peaking on Tuesday and Wednesday. Observation is recommended after 11 p.m.

This year's August Full Moon will be on August 9 and will be called the 'Sturgeon Moon'.

To mark the peak of the phenomenon, the Astronomical Society of Cyprus (ASTREK) and other organizations are hosting an astronomy night on Tuesday, August 12, in Kyperounta. Admission is free.
