Cyprus: Mediterranean Identified as Vulnerable Climate Hotspot

Cyprus and the Mediterranean are recognized as one of the most vulnerable climate 'hotspots' in the world, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, at the International Conference on Meteorology, Climatology and Atmospheric Physics (COMECAP 2025).
COMECAP 2025, to be held in Nicosia from September 29 to October 1, 2025, is a leading scientific meeting in the field of geosciences. It is organized by the Hellenic Meteorological Society and hosted by the 'Eratosthenes' Center of Excellence of TEPAK, in collaboration with the Cyprus Department of Meteorology.
Ms. Panagiotou stressed that Cyprus is responding to the challenges of climate change with determination, investing in agrometeorological services, new technologies and strengthening cooperation with the academic community.
The thematic areas of the conference include climate change, the management of extreme weather events, air quality, renewable energy sources and the impacts of the climate crisis on agriculture and public health.
