The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Giorgos Papanastasiou, stated that Cyprus remains a global leader in utilizing solar energy for water heating purposes.

In 2023, Cyprus ranked first in the EU in terms of installed collector surface per capita. The contribution of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) for heating and cooling amounted to 42.75%, ranking Cyprus 9th among member states.

The Ministry has included the installation of solar systems in the “Save – Upgrade” schemes and has been implementing a grant scheme since 2008 for replacing or installing solar systems in homes, with grants exceeding 15 million euros.

The new Grant Scheme for 2025 has already been prepared and sent to EBHEK for consultation, aiming to simplify procedures and increase the number of applications.

The Ministry also contributes to the training of human resources, certifying training bodies and maintaining a Register of Solar System Installers.
