The Trump administration has announced its intention to close the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. Russ Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, claimed the center is a major source of climate alarmism in the United States.

NCAR, founded in 1960, conducts research and trains scientists worldwide on climate change issues. Kevin Trenberth, a former NCAR researcher, stated that its dissolution would be a "major loss for scientific research." Colorado Governor Jared Polis expressed concerns about public safety and the attack on science.

Antonio Busalacchi, president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), warned that any plan to dissolve NCAR would jeopardize the country's ability to address extreme weather events.

Donald Trump has repeatedly mocked climate science and has made budget cuts to services like NOAA.
