Mike Berners-Lee: 'I'll be surprised if we get away with it in the end!'

Mike Berners-Lee, a distinguished researcher in the field of climate change, warns of a bleak future due to the accelerating path towards collapse. In an interview with 'NEA,' the Lancaster University professor emphasized the need for urgent systemic change, warning that if the current course continues, Europeans will face conditions similar to World War II within the next 20 years.
Berners-Lee refers to a 'global polycrisis,' where the climate and energy crises are intensifying, the population is increasing, food insecurity is worsening, soil fertility is declining, biodiversity is threatened, pollution is spreading, and diseases are becoming more dangerous.
The researcher warns that the melting of permafrost in Siberia will release methane, accelerating global warming. At the same time, the spread of plastics with the thousands of chemicals they contain threatens fertility.
In his new book 'A Climate of Truth,' Berners-Lee emphasizes that while there are means to address climate change, humanity is accelerating its path towards 'polycrisis.' He stresses the need for respect for the environment, people, and truth, while criticizing politics, business, and the media for misleading the public about the climate. He makes special mention of the US government and Donald Trump for denying climate change.
Despite the challenges, Berners-Lee expresses hope that social change can come quickly, as long as priorities are revised.
