Morocco: At Least 21 Dead in Flash Floods in Safi

At least 21 people have died in Safi, Morocco, due to flash floods caused by heavy rainfall. The floods, described as the worst in the last decade, hit the Safi province, about 300 kilometers south of Rabat.
Muddy torrents flooded the streets, sweeping away everything in their path. According to residents, the situation was a "dark day" for the city. Civil protection services intervened with boats to rescue residents.
Authorities announced that at least 70 houses and shops were flooded, while parts of the road network were damaged. The Moroccan meteorological service had warned of heavy rains in various parts of the country. Heavy rainfall is not uncommon in Morocco, despite the severe drought the country is facing.
