Major Fire in France: Area Equal to Paris Burned

A major fire has been raging in southern France for the third day, having destroyed an area larger than the city of Paris. The fire, which started near the village of Ribot, has been described as the largest in the country since 1949.

One person has died and 13 have been injured. Approximately 2,150 firefighters with 500 vehicles and 16 aerial vehicles are operating in the area. Around 2,500 households have been left without electricity, while at least 25 houses and 35 vehicles have been destroyed.

Colonel Christophe Manni stated that the fire has not yet been brought under control and that the fire front is returning to the point from which it started, in inaccessible forest areas.

The prefecture announced that there are 13 injured, including eleven firefighters. The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, confirmed the number of injured.
