Mexico: 14-Year-Old Dies of Cold on Iztaccihuatl Volcano

A 14-year-old boy was found dead in Mexico three days after disappearing while attempting to climb the Iztaccihuatl volcano without a companion or proper equipment. The lifeless body of Paolo Sánchez Carrasco was found at an altitude of approximately 4,780 meters.
Authorities attributed his death to hypothermia. Before his disappearance, the teenager had uploaded videos on social media stating that he did not have a sleeping bag and that the temperature had dropped to -2°C.
A witness reported being on the same route when a storm hit, forcing her group to camp exposed to the cold. The 14-year-old had traveled alone from Mexico City. Iztaccihuatl is 5,213 meters high and considered a technically difficult climb.
Experts emphasize the need for mountaineering equipment and experienced guides. The incident follows the death of a young woman from Brazil on a volcano in Indonesia.
