Nigeria: Nurses Suspend Strike After Agreement Reached

Nurses in Nigeria's public hospitals have suspended their week-long "warning strike," which began last Wednesday. The suspension follows an agreement with the government to implement their demands, according to their union.
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) reported that the government responded positively to their demands for salary increases, recruitment, and improved working conditions, providing "clear timelines" for their implementation. However, they warned that they would closely monitor the implementation of the agreement's terms.
A delegation from NANNM met with government representatives, including the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, and the Minister of Labour, Muhammad Dingyadi. Pate pledged that the government would ensure the implementation of the nurses' demands and assured that no nurse would face sanctions for participating in the strike.
The NEC announced the immediate suspension of the nationwide strike and instructed the national leadership to continue monitoring the implementation of the memorandum of understanding.
