South Australia Bans Plastic 'Soy Sauce Fish' for Sushi

South Australia is the first region worldwide to ban the miniature plastic soy sauce containers, known as 'soy sauce fish,' that commonly accompany sushi.

Effective September 1st, these small containers are being withdrawn from the market as part of a broader plan to reduce single-use plastics. The 'soy sauce fish,' or shoyu-tai, are considered environmentally problematic due to their small size, making them difficult to recycle.

As a result, they often end up in landfills.
