Pakistan: Flood Threat from Mud Lake

A 7-kilometer-long lake in northern Pakistan, created by a landslide, threatens several areas with devastating floods, officials warned.
The mudflow blocked the Ghizer River in Gilgit Baltistan province, creating a 'dam-like structure' that threatens to burst, according to Zakir Hussain, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.
A total of four areas face a serious threat. Floods in Pakistan have claimed the lives of approximately 400 people since mid-August.
