Over 40 Vultures Spotted in Cyprus, Sign of Recovery

For the first time since the 1990s, over 40 vultures have been seen crossing the skies of Cyprus, according to BirdLife Cyprus. This is an encouraging sign that efforts to protect the vulture population are paying off.
The increased presence of vultures is the result of coordinated actions, such as the removal of poisoned baits and the education of farmers. Transfer and GPS monitoring programs have also contributed.
However, BirdLife Cyprus emphasizes that progress is fragile. Reducing poisoned baits and improving the Electricity Authority of Cyprus network to prevent electrocution are vital. Electrocutions remain a serious threat.
Protecting vultures requires continuous commitment and action. Their return is a message of hope, but also a reminder that wildlife protection is ongoing.
