Thailand: Presenters 'Undress' on Air to Save Energy
Share on:

An unusual moment occurred on a morning news program on Thailand's public television, when news presenters took off their jackets live on air, in a symbolic move to save energy.

The presenters of the show “New Day ThaiPBS”, Chersan Srisatjang, Sirima Songklin, and Pattrachai Pradudom, were discussing the new government measures to limit energy consumption. The discussion focused on adapting to daily life due to high temperatures, with the mercury approaching 40 degrees Celsius.

The government encourages employees, especially in the public sector, to avoid jackets and ties, in order to reduce the need for strong air conditioning in the workplace. Chersan Srisatjang commented that viewers might wonder why they were wearing jackets, with Sirima Songklin suggesting they take them off to follow the measures. Thus, the presenters took off their jackets in front of the cameras.

The government is also promoting other practical energy-saving measures, such as setting air conditioners to 26–27 degrees Celsius, using fans, and limiting unnecessary electricity consumption. The Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, has asked public services to limit the use of electricity and prefer stairs to elevators.
