Jamaica: Floods and Fatalities from Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa has caused widespread flooding and damage in Jamaica, leaving at least three people dead. In total, the storm has claimed the lives of seven people in the Caribbean, including three in Haiti and one in the Dominican Republic.
According to the US National Hurricane Center, Melissa remains an extremely powerful hurricane, with sustained winds reaching 260 kilometers per hour, remaining marginally in Category 5. Building collapses and roof detachments have been recorded, while many roads have been blocked due to falling trees and rocks.
The Red Cross has warned that up to 1.5 million people are expected to be directly affected by the hurricane. Jamaican authorities are urging citizens to be aware of potential crocodile relocation due to flooding.
A shocking testimony was broadcast from western Jamaica, where a man requested help for a pregnant woman going into labor amidst the storm.
Experts emphasize that Melissa's slow movement is exacerbating the situation, as strong winds and rainfall last longer, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
