Brazil: At Least 6 Dead After Tornado

At least six people have died and hundreds were injured after a powerful tornado struck the state of Paraná in southern Brazil. The tornado destroyed homes and infrastructure in the city of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu.

According to local authorities, in addition to the fatalities, there are 432 injured and two people missing. The strong winds, reaching up to 250 km/h, flattened houses and caused widespread damage.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. The civil defense service reported that 90% of the city was affected by the tornado.

Scientists link extreme weather events to climate change.
