The UK's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has announced the final investment decision for the construction of the Sizewell C nuclear power plant.

The plant will cost approximately €44 billion and will provide clean energy for the equivalent of six million homes for over 60 years. It will support 10,000 jobs and create 1,500 apprenticeships.

The British government will be the largest shareholder with 44.9%. La Caisse (Canada) will hold 20%, Centrica 15%, Amber Infrastructure 7.5%, and EDF 12.5%. The Hinkley Point C plant is already under construction, costing €33-35 billion.

British Energy Minister Ed Miliband stated that the investment will provide clean energy to millions of homes. Finance Minister Rachel Reeves emphasized the importance of public ownership for energy security.
