According to a survey by WWF Greece, pollution on Greek beaches remains high. As part of the "Adopt a beach" program, nearly 300,000 pieces of litter were found on 192 beaches from March 2021 to April 2024.

The most common litter found were cigarette butts, small pieces of plastic, plastic caps, straws and styrofoam. On average, 429 cigarette butts, 159 pieces of plastic, 117 caps and 99 straws were recorded per 100 meters of coastline on each beach.
