Milos: One-Month Deadline for Restoration at Sarakiniko

The Ministry of Environment and Energy (ΥΠΕΝ) has given Unique Development A.T.E.E. one month to fully restore the Sarakiniko area in Milos, which it had excavated to build a five-star hotel. This decision follows revelations by protothema.gr 11 months ago.
The company is required to restore the site to its original condition, removing formwork and reinforcements, filling the foundation area with excavated materials, and removing all construction materials. The Milos Building Service has taken over the supervision of the implementation of the measures.
According to the report of the Environment Inspectors, the plot is located within an area designated as a Wildlife Refuge, which imposes increased obligations to protect the natural environment. Alteration of the natural landscape, destruction of local vegetation and degradation of the aesthetic value of the area were found.
At the same time, the National Transparency Authority found urban planning and institutional omissions during the issuance of the building permit, such as the absence of critical approvals and studies, as well as the fact that access to the property is via an unapproved road.
It is recalled that, in a second case in Milos, after publications by protothema.gr and the mobilization of the institutional authorities to stop the ecological crime on the protected beach of Mytakas in Milos, the case of the under-construction White Coast hotel complex entered the well-known phase of 'blame-game'.
