Gold Coin Scam: Roma Ring Dismantled – How They Operated

A ring that allegedly defrauded victims through gold coin sales has been dismantled by the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DAOE). According to the investigation, the gang, consisting of members of a powerful Roma family, approached victims offering gold coins at low prices.
The Scam Tactics:
- Fake Companies: Creation of shell companies that took on festivals for illegal enrichment.
- Display of Wealth: Family members flaunted a lavish lifestyle, driving expensive cars and residing in luxurious homes.
- Former Police Officer: Collaboration with a former police officer, who is accused of possession and trafficking of narcotics.
The Contribution of a Businesswoman:
A businesswoman from Mykonos, Angela - Evangelia Grypari, played a decisive role in solving the case, collecting data and testimonies from other victims.
The Fraud Cases:
- Mykonos: A businessman lost €140,000 in the purchase of 500 gold coins.
- Local Government: A former candidate defrauded with €143,000.
- Larissa: An industrialist lost €710,000.
- Glyfada/Mykonos: A man was threatened with a gun and lost €60,000.
The investigation continues with the Larissa Court of First Instance having taken over the case.
