The Hellenic Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has frozen the accounts and assets of those accused of involvement in the Crete mafia. The investigation aims to 'map' the traces of dirty money.

The Independent Authority is scrutinizing all account movements and real estate of the suspects. According to reports, the Authority has already detected traces of account activity abroad, and may request assistance from the competent authorities of other countries.

After the investigation is completed, the findings will be forwarded to the judicial authorities for consideration. The head of the Authority is Honorary Deputy Prosecutor of the Areios Pagos, Charalambos Vourliotis.
