The case of Garifalia's murder in Folegandros has returned to the Aegean Court of Appeal in Syros, five years after the crime. The defendant is seeking mitigating circumstances in order to reduce his sentence.

Garifalia's mother, Alexandra Makou, expressed her opposition to the request, demanding a life sentence. She stated that the defendant knew his actions and has shown no remorse.

In the first instance trial, the defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment for homicide in a calm state of mind, without recognition of mitigating circumstances.

The trial was adjourned and will continue on Friday, November 7, with the presence of psychiatrists and forensic experts, according to cyclades24.gr.
