Eleni Papadopoulou: Son Charged in Death

The 60-year-old son of Eleni Papadopoulou has been jailed, charged with her murder. Police investigated the circumstances surrounding the death of Eleni Papadopoulou, who was found dead in her apartment in Kolonaki on January 29, 2022.

Initially, Papadopoulou's death was attributed to an accident; however, the police investigation led to the arrest of her son on December 26. He faces charges of intentional homicide and arson.

According to police, the son allegedly discussed fleeing abroad after his mother's death. Investigations revealed that Papadopoulou lived in squalid conditions, as her son allegedly locked her in the house, mistreated her, and took money from her pension.

Police investigations concluded that the elderly woman was under the influence of a large amount of drugs at the time the fire broke out. In addition, traces of gasoline were found at the scene, while no carbon monoxide was found in her blood, indicating that she was already dead before the fire.

Authorities are also investigating claims that Papadopoulou's son wanted to sell his mother's apartment before the fire, despite her opposition.
