Heraklion: Municipal Employee Arrested for €6,000 Bribe

A municipal employee of the Municipality of Malevizi in Heraklion was arrested following a complaint of a €6,000 bribe. According to the complaint, the employee requested the sum of money to issue a forged document concerning a family grave.

The arrest was made by police officers of the Malevizi Police Department with pre-marked banknotes. The forged document and handwritten notes were also confiscated.

The Mayor of Malevizi, Menelaos Bokeas, expressed his displeasure at the incident and stressed that the case would be fully investigated. An emergency meeting of the Municipal Committee will be held to decide on administrative measures.

The complaint was made by a woman who reported that the employee asked for €6,000 for the concession of a family grave in the Gazi cemetery.
