Doctor Convicted of Bribery: Controversy at Hippocrateion Hospital

A doctor from Hippocrateion Hospital has sparked controversy after being convicted of bribery. The doctor, former director of the cardiac surgery clinic, received a three-year suspended prison sentence and a €30,000 fine after being accused of accepting a bribe to operate on a patient.
According to the allegations, the doctor demanded between €3,000 and €5,000 to perform surgeries and provide post-operative care. The case came to light in September when the doctor was caught red-handed with marked bills.
Speaking on a television program, the convicted doctor expressed his displeasure with the accusations, accusing the complainants of ingratitude. He claimed to have offered his services for many years and that this case has disappointed him.
The wife of the patient who reported the doctor stated that the doctor initially asked for €5,000 but eventually agreed to €3,000. Other patients and relatives have also reported similar practices.
During his defense in court, the doctor denied the charges and spoke of being framed due to competition with another doctor. However, the prosecutor called for his conviction, emphasizing that the doctor was caught red-handed accepting the money.
