In Katerini, a 17-year-old local was arrested by the Cybercrime Prosecution Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece, accused of trafficking counterfeit money and violating weapons laws. The arrest took place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

The investigation began following reports of audiovisual material on social media, where the 17-year-old was seen making withdrawals from ATMs using cloned cards. In other videos, individuals were displaying large sums of money, allegedly derived from the same activity.

During a search of his home, in the presence of a judicial official, €32,200 in counterfeit banknotes, two cloned bank cards, a smart card reader, packaging materials, two full face masks, a baton, a replica pistol, two hard drives, a USB device, and two mobile phones were found and confiscated. The counterfeit banknotes were hidden in a board game box and a refrigerator.

The arrested individual was led to the competent prosecutor's office, while the confiscated items will be sent to the Directorate of Forensic Investigations for laboratory examination.
