Katerini: Woman Scammed out of €79,000 by Impersonating DEDDIE Employees

In Katerini, fraudsters scammed a woman out of €79,000 by impersonating employees of DEDDIE (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator). Police have arrested one man in connection with the case.
According to the police, the perpetrator, in collaboration with an accomplice, called the victim posing as a DEDDIE employee and claimed there was an electrical leak in her house. He convinced her to wrap money and jewelry in aluminum foil and leave them on a table.
He then persuaded her to leave the door open, and the arrested man stole money and jewelry worth €79,000. During a search of the suspect's home in Thessaloniki, a gas pistol, jewelry, a vehicle key, a motorcycle, €80, and a mobile phone were found.
Police are continuing their investigation to locate the accomplice and to determine if they were involved in other similar crimes. The arrested man was led to the Prosecutor of First Instance of Katerini.
The General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia advises citizens not to trust strangers who call and impersonate various roles and to always inform the police.
