Crete: 19-year-old killed in traffic accident on VOAK highway

A tragic accident occurred in Crete, where a 19-year-old lost her life after being hit by a passing vehicle while trying to cross the Northern Road Axis of Crete (VOAK).

The accident happened shortly before midnight on Thursday in the Koutouloufari area of the Municipality of Hersonissos. According to cretalive.gr, the car, driven by a 21-year-old, was moving towards Agios Nikolaos when the 19-year-old attempted to cross the road perpendicularly.

The driver was unable to react and hit the young foreign national, who was fatally injured. An ambulance from EKAV rushed to the scene, but it was already too late. The 21-year-old driver was arrested.

A passing driver reported that shortly before the accident, they had avoided the girl who was walking on the VOAK.
