Crete: Infant Falls from Balcony – Seriously Injured in Hospital

An infant, just one year old, was seriously injured after falling from a balcony in the Gerani area of Platanias Municipality in Chania.

According to information from ERT Chania, the incident occurred when the infant escaped the attention of its 17-year-old mother. The child was initially transported to Chania Hospital and then to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the University Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNH) in a comatose state.

The Deputy Commander of PAGNH, Stelios Kteniadakis, stated that the infant is hospitalized with multiple injuries to the head and body.

Police initially arrested the mother for endangerment, but she was released to go to the hospital. The Chania Sub-Directorate of Crime Prosecution and Investigation is conducting a preliminary investigation.
