Nea Styra: Ferry Boat Captain Released on Conditions

The captain of the ferry boat that ran aground in Nea Styra, Evia, has been released on bail with restrictive conditions. The decision was made after his deposition to the investigator on Friday.

According to evima, the captain is required to report to the police station and is prohibited from leaving the country.

The captain's lawyer stated that his client momentarily felt that the ship was not responding, without claiming any damage. He attributed a possible cause to a current or weather conditions.

The captain initially claimed that the ship's rudders were stuck and that he did not see the shoal. The ship was dislodged and towed to the fishing shelter of Nea Styra.
