New Violations of Sheep and Goat Pox Measures – Referrals to Justice

Four new violations of biosecurity measures for sheep and goat pox have been recorded in various regions of Greece, and the cases have been referred to Justice.

The violations occurred in Giannouli Larissa, Damasi Tyrnavou, Arta, and Fthiotida. A total of six people were arrested.

In Giannouli Larissa, on 10/11/2025, a sheep and goat owner was arrested for moving his animals to farmland outside the stable facility.

In Damasi Tyrnavou, on the same day, a sheep and goat owner and a shepherd were arrested because the shepherd was grazing approximately 200 goats near the stable facility.

In the area of Sellades Arta, two people were arrested for illegally transporting 45 lambs from Messolonghi without the necessary documents. The animals and the vehicle were confiscated.

In Lygaria Fthiotida, on 17/11/2025, a local was arrested for grazing approximately 40 sheep outside the stable facilities.

Sources from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food stated that inspections will continue rigorously to protect livestock production.
