Palaio Faliro: Mother Attempted to Flee After 3-Year-Old's Death

The 32-year-old Algerian woman, accused of the murder of her 3-year-old daughter in Palaio Faliro, allegedly attempted to flee Greece after the tragic event.
According to protothema.gr, the woman contacted the Algerian embassy in Athens, stating that she had two children instead of three, and requested assistance to return to her homeland.
The embassy referred her to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Warda Atrouche made an appointment with the IOM, informing them that she had two children and sending copies of passports and birth certificates.
The IOM's Voluntary Return Program, in cooperation with the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, offers coverage of air tickets and 500 euros to those who wish to return to their country and whose asylum application has been rejected.
The 32-year-old's arrest thwarted her attempt to attend the appointment with the IOM. Her sister called the Algerian embassy requesting legal assistance.
The 32-year-old had applied for asylum in Greece in 2020, which was rejected. A new application in April ended with the termination of the procedure. She claimed that she threw the child on the beach because she feared the consequences due to her illegal stay.
