Over 800 Tickets Issued for Not Wearing a Helmet in One Week

Over 800 tickets were issued for not wearing a helmet in one week, according to the Hellenic Police. During the period of 19/01/2026-25/01/2026, 13,720 checks were carried out as part of the campaign «Zero Tolerance for Not Wearing a Helmet».

In total, 724 violations were confirmed for drivers (32 for employees in delivery services) and 89 violations for passengers. 572 involved motorcycle drivers (31 delivery drivers), 89 motorcycle passengers, and 151 drivers of E.P.H.O. (Light Personal Electric Vehicles).

  • Central Macedonia: 12
  • North Aegean: 10
  • Epirus: 8
  • Western Macedonia: 1

With the new Traffic Code (Law 5209/2025), stricter penalties are provided: a €350 fine and revocation of the driving license for 30 days for motorcycle drivers, and a €350 fine for motorcycle passengers. For E.P.H.O. drivers, the fine is €30.

The Hellenic Police emphasizes that the campaign aims to change the perception regarding helmet use as a measure to protect life.
