Patras: 'I Don't Remember, I Drank Too Much Tsipouro,' Says Arson Suspect – Applause in Court

A 27-year-old accused of arson in Sychaina, Patras, claimed he remembers nothing due to excessive tsipouro consumption, denying the charges. According to SKAI, the 27-year-old claimed he had memory gaps due to alcohol consumption.
In contrast, the 19-year-old arrested with him confessed to his involvement, saying he started the fire with a lighter while under the influence of alcohol and hashish. Both are accused of arson in forest and non-forest areas and were given time to prepare their defense.
Authorities are also investigating other cases of arson in Western Greece, including fires in Vonitsa, Preveza, and Zakynthos. Testimonies and photos are leading the investigations to suspects, while the possibility of sparks from PPC pillars causing some of the fires is also being examined.
A resident of Vounteni photographed the two arrested in Sychaina acting suspiciously, while a bottle of gasoline was found near the starting point of the fire. Upon their departure from the courthouse, citizens shouted at the accused 'You burned Patras'.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old accused of arson near the Patras Nursing Home was greeted with applause. The young man was given time until Saturday, while voices such as 'Bravo, my lad' were heard from those present.
