Rethymno: 53-Year-Old Arrested for Inciting Crimes Related to Fires

A 53-year-old man was arrested in Rethymno, Crete, accused of inciting citizens to commit crimes, spreading false news, and violating weapons laws, in connection with the recent fires.

The man allegedly claimed to be forming groups to locate arsonists, causing concern and discord through social media posts. During his arrest, police found a knife in his possession.

According to a police statement, the 53-year-old was arrested on August 14 by the Rethymno Crime Prosecution and Investigation Sub-Directorate. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
