Rhodes: 82-year-old jailed for granddaughter's rape

An 82-year-old man in Rhodes has been jailed by order of the Council of Misdemeanor Judges, accused of raping his 8-year-old granddaughter in October 2021. The accused denies the charges.

According to rodiaki.gr, the 82-year-old apologized to the investigator, denying all charges. After the apology, there was disagreement between the prosecutor and the investigator, and he was initially released.

The 82-year-old claimed that he took care of his grandchildren on a daily basis with his wife and that he could not be alone with the 8-year-old. He also stated that he was the first to cooperate with the authorities when he was informed of the possible abuse.

The elderly man referred to his relationship with his grandchildren, saying that it is excellent and that he has daily communication with them, while stressing that he cannot understand the charges against him.

The case began when the 8-year-old developed an infection in her genitals. In the course of the investigation, the child's aunt was also involved, who confessed to deceiving the mother in order to extract money.
