Serres: Migrant Escapes Detention Center, Quickly Rearrested

A migrant escaped from a closed detention center in the municipality of Sintiki, Serres, on the night of Monday, August 18. According to ERT, the incident occurred during heavy rainfall.

In total, six migrants attempted to escape, but five were immediately apprehended. The sixth was located on the morning of Tuesday, August 19, in a stream and arrested by the police.

Following the escape, police authorities were immediately mobilized, with reinforcements from Thessaloniki and Kilkis participating in the search.

The migrants had recently been transferred to the facility from Crete.
