Tragedy on Egnatia Odos: Worker Killed on Duty

A 54-year-old worker of "Nea Egnatia Odos" has tragically died after being hit by a passing vehicle while placing cones to block off the site of a traffic accident.

The incident occurred on the Egnatia Odos highway, in the direction towards Igoumenitsa. The worker, along with a colleague, rushed to the scene of a traffic accident where a car had collided with a truck. While trying to cordon off the area, a passing vehicle struck the 54-year-old.

According to reports, the vehicle that hit the worker was driven by a 78-year-old man, with his 73-year-old wife as a passenger. Tragically, the driver's wife also lost her life in the incident. The couple was from Corfu.

"It was a tragic accident that happened today, where one person was killed and we have also lost one of our own people, he was our employee. Our condolences to the families of the two people who lost their lives," said sources from the company "Nea Egnatia A.E."

The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the competent police authorities.
