Trikala: Violanta Owner Remanded in Custody After Factory Explosion

Konstantinos Tziortziotis, the owner of the Violanta biscuit factory, has been remanded in custody following his testimony regarding the explosion at the factory in Trikala, which resulted in the deaths of five workers.
According to reports, Mr. Tziortziotis was taken to Trikala prison. His testimony lasted approximately five hours, during which the investigator questioned him about the operation of the factory and compliance with safety protocols.
According to ERT, Mr. Tziortziotis reportedly stated that he was unaware of the technical issues, as he manages a large-turnover business and that he had associates, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and electricians, who were responsible for these matters. He also stated that he would support the families of the victims and the remaining employees.
The owner of Violanta is accused of causing an explosion with possible intent, manslaughter by negligence, and causing bodily harm.
According to employee testimonies, the propane leak had been noticed months before the accident, but the management and ownership of the factory did not take the necessary measures.
